Strengthening Of Fire Damaged Cold Storage Structure, Navi Mumbai

  • RCC frame of cold storage was damaged after exposing to fire for longer duration
  • Excessive deflections were also observed in few locations
  • NDT results indicated lower velocity value
  • Core showed porosity and lower compressive strength
  • Bonding capacity of cement paste reduces when subjected to higher temperature for longer period
  • RCC structure was exposed to higher temperature for considerable time. This lead to micro cracking and spalling in concrete


  • Repairing was carried out by grouting low viscosity monomers to seal the micro cracks and improving the micro structure of concrete.
  • Spalled portions were treated by polymer modified mortar
  • Additional steel support were introduced to control the deflection
  • Instead of conventional wrap system, factory made composite profiles were used and fixed at site by chemical adhesive and mechanical anchorsM
  • Project was completed in 60 days period
