Seismic Retrofitting Of Hospital Building, South Mumbai
  • Problem:
  • G+3- 90 years old timber masonry structure in South Mumbai
  • Timber structure frame joints were badly affected by termite attack
  • This has affected stability of frame
  • Resident were against providing steel frame supports, which would have affected there movement in home giving feeling of unsafe structure


  • Timber joist were cleaned and anti termite treatment was carried out
  • Stiffening of beam column joint was carried out by using glass fiber wraps
  • Small steel cages were introduced and gaps were filled with micro concrete followed by wrapping

Salient Features:
Total 200 nos. of joints were treated without relocating occupants of building
Total 1200 Kgs of FRP materials were used as against 90 T of steel initially proposed
Entire work was completed in 6 months period
Retrofit system performing in satisfactory manner for last 7 years
